My trip sailing

On 13/5 2021 my class and I ( TWP4 ) and another class called ( TWP8 ) went on a trip. The trip was to go sailing, on the bus to this sailing place near Mission BAy. When we all got there the people that are teaching us introduced them to us. After that we all got into groups of three. My partners were Pauliasi, and Alekisio.

They set us into groups of three so we can all try and work out how to put all of the pieces together to use the boat. After finishing all of the boats we started to name it, we named ours ( MMT SEASHELLS ). We called it MMT which means Mate’ MAA TONGA because everyone in the group was Tongan.

I was chosen as a captain for our team so I was steering the boat. Pauliasi was the one that was pulling the sail and Alekisio was the deckhand, so he had to make sure there weren't hips of water and to look  if we bump into something.

What I liked about sailing is from that day I learned that if you have to balance it so it doesn’t flip over or sink but it also depends on my steering.

What I didn't like about sailing is when there were heaps of water in the boat and it was hard to steer.

I enjoyed the day of sailing because the MMT team worked together as a team. And I hope there will be another day of sailing in the future.

Alfonsus Plant Video

Plant Video - Tuesday 4th May

Name all the important/key words in this video.

Our Great Plants video

Photosynthesis- Is the process by which green plants and certain other organisms transform light energy into chemical energy. During photosynthesis in green plants, light energy is captured and used to convert water, carbon dioxide, and minerals into oxygen and energy-rich organic compounds.

Autotrophs- Are organisms that can produce their own food, using materials from inorganic sources. The word “autotroph” comes from the root words “auto” for “self” and “troph” for “food.” An autotroph is an organism that feeds itself, without the assistance of any other organisms.

Multicellular-Multicellular is a tissue, organ or organism that is made up of many cells is said to be multicellular. Animals, plants, and fungi are multicellular organisms and often, there is specialization of different cells for various functions.

Terrestrial- Refers to things related to land or the planet Earth. Terrestrial may also refer to Terrestrial animal, an animal that lives on land opposed to living in water, or sometimes an animal that lives on or near the ground, as opposed to arboreal life in trees

Mosses- are a phylum of nonvascular plants. They produce spores for reproduction instead of seeds and don't grow flowers, wood or true roots. Instead of roots, all species of moss have rhizoids. The mosses sit within a division of plants called the Bryophyta under the subdivision Music.

Trees talk to each other Article

Trees Talk To Each Other Article Friday 7th May
 What is the article about?

Trees are "social creatures" that communicate with each other in collective ways that hold lessons for humans, too, ecologist Suzanne Simard says. Simard grew up in Canadian forests as a descendant of loggers before becoming a forestry ecologist. She's now a professor of forest ecology at the University of British Columbia. Trees are linked to neighboring trees by an underground network of fungi that resembles the neural networks in the brain, she explains. In one study, Simard watched as a Douglas fir that had been injured by insects appeared to send chemical warning signals to a ponderosa pine growing nearby. The pine tree then produced defense enzymes to protect against the insect. "This was a breakthrough," Simard says. The trees were sharing "information that actually is important to the health of the whole forest." In addition to warning each other of danger, Simard says that trees have been known to share nutrients at critical times to keep each other healthy. She says the trees in a forest are often linked to each other via an older tree she calls a "mother" or "hub" tree.

The Nemo Museum

In the holiday me and my class my class (TWP4) and the year 7 and 8 had an challenge and I done one of them and that is this one. The challenge was to try and look for your favourite building and write everything about it. I picked the Nemo Museum in Europe Holland Amsterdam, I liked the Nemo Museum because it is apart of my country and it inspires me with its history and engineer stuff that they had from history. The floors of NEMO Amsterdam is an appealing event and is a science museum in Amsterdam. Children of many ages have fun with huge soap bubbles and analysis in the chemistry lab. The cutting-edge museum brags Amsterdam’s highest piazza at 22 meters above sea level and the oblique terrace faces the heart of Amsterdam, offering amazing scenic views of the city. Adults, with or without children of their own, relish at NEMO too. It’s hard to hold back when presented with all the gadgets and experiments. It can be accessed via a large staircase on the south side of the building. Address: 2 Oosterdok, Amsterdam-Centrum Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, 1011 VX, The Netherland.

Alfonsus- Mangroves area

Today at school, my class and the seniors from Glen Innes went to this place where there were hips of different kinds of native trees and I saw some Mangroves growing out of the ground near the sea bank. The name of the place that we went to was called Tahuna Tōrea beach. When we were there getting ready to learn about plants we all first went into groups, A,B,C,D,E, and IF. I was in group A, we first went to this place where you can see all of the mangroves ( mangroves is a tree or shrub which grows in tidal, chiefly tropical, coastal swamps, having numerous tangled roots that grow above ground and form dense thickets ).

I appreciate about my mum

Today we had a very special mass. We were celebrating Mother’s Day. We had some of our mothers come in and celebrate with us.

In class this week we made our very own Mother’s Day cards. I used A4 coloured paper and I rolled it up and then I made a shape of a heart and glued it onto a piece of paper then I glued the rolled of paper inside the shape of the heart. I gave it to my teacher and she told me to write down the stuff that I appreciate about my mum.

I appreciate my Mum because she makes me yummy breakfast.
I know my mum loves me because she always helps me with my work.
I love my mum because she loves me and she gives me kisses and hugs.
